Crypto Crib Newsletter - Presidential Debate, Assange gets over $500k in Donations, US and Germany govt selling Bitcoin
Welcome again to the Crypto Crib Newsletter, past few weeks have been a roller coaster in terms of emotions but not so much in terms of Price Action. As some of you may already know, the German govt has been selling their seized Bitcoin stacks for a few days now, adding to the already heavy spot flow and experts are puzzled as to what comes next.
US govt joins the German govt in selling seized Bitcoin
The United States govt has collected a substantial amount of Bitcoin over the years through various prosecutions in Silk Road-esque scams and sanctions amounting to over $13B in value at current prices. Now there are reports that the US govt is selling portions of their Bitcoin through centralized exchanges like Coinbase. This is followed by days of selling by the German govt in similar fashion. Now with reports stating Mt Gox victims will also start receiving their claims, things look bleak in terms of potential upside for some time.
Assange goes free, receives big donations from Crypto OGs
Julian Assange has been living his life on the run and in prison as well as house prison since last decade when the US agencies and the govt itself started to hunt him down for creating Wikileaks, a platform for whistleblowers to anonymously uncover the darkest secrets of their employers, govts and other agencies. The embarrassment was too much for the US govt to handle as there have been numerous attempts of assassination of Assange. Now it finally looks like the road ahead is clear for him as he gets a plea deal in which he will not be charged with any other felony counts excluding one related to National Security. Amid all this, many bitcoiners started donating to Assange wherein the donations reached over $500k in value in a very small time frame.
Meme worthy first Presidential Debate, no mention of Bitcoin
Everyone was hooked up to their seats during the first Presidential debate where all the crypto bros were hoping Trump will utter Bitcoin at least once. However the hope rapidly turned into disappointment as the debate focused on many insignificant matters. None of the candidates included Bitcoin or Crypto in their agendas. Regardless, the debate has provided endless meme material to the internet community. Biden however looks very weak and puzzled, which gives Trump a big boost. This is also seen as a positive sign for the whole crypto space following the recent public support they have been receiving from the Trump campaign.
